Lily (Lilium) can rightfully be called the queen of the garden. Oriental tender perennial has earned love for its large inflorescences and incredible aroma. Eucharis is an Amazonian lily belonging to the Amaryllis family. The perennial is decorative, the bulb is rounded, the leaves are large, the flowers resemble a daffodil, but bluish or white. The core of the flower is greenish, the aroma of the plant is strong, pleasant.
Homeland of Amazonian Lily
The birthplace of eucharis is South and Central America. In nature, the plant can be found near the Amazon River and near the Andes. The name of the flower is translated as "elegant" - it suits him perfectly.
Currently, more than ten species of Eucharis are known. Some of them are quite popular in home gardening.
How to care for lilies at home
It is always scary to damage a purchased bulb. It is single in the package, the cost is quite high. Suddenly it dries up or, conversely, decays? For proper storage of lily bulbs, not very fine sawdust or dry peat soil will be needed. You need to take the bulb, "wrap" it with sawdust, put the resulting lump in a perforated bag and place in the refrigerator for storage. If the onion begins to dry, slightly dampen the sawdust. The plant will take moisture from them and be perfectly preserved.
If on the surface of the bulb there are scuffs or slight damage, these places can be greased with brilliant green or iodine. It happens that the plant is in a deplorable state, there are many damaged scales. However, from such material you can get a good "offspring." Damaged flakes must be carefully separated from the bulb along with part of the bottom. Then they are placed in a bag with moderately moist soil, and the bag is inflated, tightly tied, and put into a warm cabinet. After 2 weeks, white buds will appear on the edge of the flake, where there was a bottom, new lilies.
As soon as the bulbs release the arrow 2-5 cm, they must be planted at home in a deep container. Lilies do not like shallow planting, as a result of which they suffer from overheating. Bulbs should be planted at a depth of 20-25 cm. It is worth noting that the plants tolerate transplant in any condition, even during flowering.
Eucharis should be located at home on windows facing west or east. It is important that the plant is not exposed to direct sunlight. To do this, it is placed 50 cm from the window.
As for the ambient temperature, the lily is thermophilic, so the room should have a temperature equal to approximately +25 degrees, in winter not lower than +18 degrees. As practice shows, if the air temperature in winter is equal to 20-22 degrees, lily bloom will be plentiful. In a different state of affairs, only the foliage of the plant will delight you. When the air drops to 10 degrees, eucharis discards leaves, and its root system rots. It is worth noting that without leaves the flower feels extremely bad.
Amazonian lily blooms only if cultivation technology is followed. It is recommended to transplant the plant no more than once every 3-4 years, while adhering to the following rules:
- the event is held in March, at the dormant stage of a flower;
- the soil lump is carefully loosened, and the root system is straightened;
- the bulbs are buried a couple of centimeters, after which the soil is carefully rammed;
- planting substrate is prepared from sheet soil, compost and coarse sand;
- for a beautiful, lush flowering use a wide landing capacity with drainage holes;
- as a drainage, claydite or a special crumb is poured onto the bottom of the flower pot;
- 3-5 bulbs of the plant, pre-treated with a solution of potassium permanganate, are planted in a flower pot.
After planting, the correct irrigation regime is very important, since it is necessary to minimize the risk of damage to the bulbs by rot as a result of waterlogging. For irrigation should use water at room temperature.

Features of watering
Lilies do not like water, so they should be watered rarely, but abundantly. The soil can not be over-moistened, but it is not worth letting it dry out - the roots will begin to rot. The water used for irrigation is warm, and it is better to pour it into the pan. Dip the plant in a pot in it for 20 minutes, then take out the lily and put it in its original place.
Question about feeding
Lilies need to be fed 2-3 times during the summer. The very first feeding is carried out when the sprouts come out of the ground, with a solution of calcium nitrate. The next top dressing should be carried out from August 1 to August 15. For her you will need:
- potassium sulfate (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water);
- superphosphate, which has passed a hot extract (10 l of boiling water, 10 tbsp.spoons of superphosphate, insist a day, dilute the concentrate obtained in a proportion of 1 l per 10 l of water).
Eucharis also responds well to purchased organic fertilizers.
Why does not eucharis bloom
The situation when eucharis does not bloom is by no means a rarity, but rather serves as a trend. The reason for this is not disease, but violations in the care process. Many people complain that they spent material resources on buying a plant, and it not only does not produce flowers, but even disappears. Almost always, they themselves are the culprit of such troubles, since they did not organize normal conditions for the functioning of the lily, and this is the main reason.
Eucharis is a rather strange plant. First of all, it comes to choosing a pot. For the lily to function normally, it should not be large and spacious, as we all are accustomed to, but, on the contrary, cramped and small. In simple terms, a traditional large and spacious pot is absolutely not suitable for breeding eucharis. Based on this, it is recommended to place several plants at once in one container, since with a single planting, most of the plant's forces will not be spent on the formation of inflorescences, but on the development of the bulb itself.
First of all, you need to choose the most suitable place to place the flower pot. Eucharis, like most houseplants, loves light very much, especially when it comes to natural light. At the same time, when choosing a place, one should take into account the fact that ultraviolet rays that hit the flower during the peak of the sun are able to leave burns on its surface and become the main factor that leaves the leaves turn yellow in eucharis. On this basis, window sills located on the western or eastern windows, where sunlight is quite common, but at the time of peak activity, is located on the back of the building, are ideal places for lily.
Lily eucharis is a tropical plant and, accordingly, is very fond of heat and humidity. Based on this, in the room it is necessary to recreate such conditions that will be as close as possible to the natural habitat. Depending on the degree of growth and stage of development of the flower, the temperature regime should be as follows:
- In the spring-summer period, when eucharis blooms or is in a growth stage, the temperature should not fall below +18 degrees, or even exceed this indicator.
- During dormancy, accompanied by developmental stagnation, which occurs in winter, the thermometer should show + 13 / + 16 degrees.
With an optimal level of development, eucharis practically does not suffer from pests. However, when a plant is weakened, thrips, scabies and spider mites can attack it. In turn, to combat such insects should be with the help of insecticidal solutions intended for spraying flowers.
A variety of diseases also bypass a healthy and strong lily side, but with the weakening of his immunity, the development of gray rot is possible. As a rule, the reason for the development of this ailment is quite simple and lies in the high humidity in the room at low temperature conditions. It is this combination of factors that serves as a catalyst for the development of this disease and many other pathological conditions. To combat rot, you need to significantly reduce the watering of the plant and treat it with a special solution. This is the only way to guarantee complete elimination of the problem, and its return completely depends on the conditions that are created in the room.
Why does the flower turn yellow leaves
Improper care can cause the lily to turn yellow leaves. If several leaves turn yellow, there is no reason to panic. If all the leaves began to dry, watering should be limited.
At home, problems with eucharis can begin if you have recently transplanted it. In this case, the leaves turn yellow due to a change in the earthen coma. You can transplant the plant 1 time in 3 years, in March. The soil for eucharis is selected loose and well moisture permeable.
What to do if all leaves turn yellow? Remove the onion from the pot and carefully inspect it. If it is raw and strangely colored, it is rotting. However, it is still possible to reanimate the lily. To do this, remove the most affected parts of the bulb with a knife, put it on a newspaper and take it out into a well-ventilated area. After it dries, plant the plant back.
Signs that are associated with the Amazonian lily
There are a large number of signs associated with eucharis. It is believed that the flower is able to increase the craving for knowledge, give new abilities and talents. If the plant is next to a woman, it protects her from failures and adversities. In Colombia, lily flowers are woven into the hair of brides to protect them from evil spirits and eyes. If the home plant began to suddenly dry up, they say that it took over the disease of one of the family members.
