Description of a variety of wild strawberry "Ali Baba"

Bezusaya strawberry "Ali Baba" ("Ali Baba") belongs to the repair varieties and is the most productive representative of the class. She is very popular among gardeners.

The plant quickly forms a branched bush and reaches an insignificant height (only 15-20 cm), but this does not prevent the formation of many inflorescences, which in the future will "reincarnate" into berries that are unsurpassed in taste. Strawberry "Ali Baba" bears fruit without long pauses, and harvesting can last from mid-June to the very frosts. Red aromatic berries have a conical shape and a sweet and sour taste. According to the content of nutrients and vitamins, Ali Baba is in no way inferior to wild strawberries. This variety is not picky about weather conditions, tolerates drought and severe freezing of the soil well.

Features of preparing seeds for sowing

Strawberry seeds require special preparation.

  • Before planting, the seed should be kept in melt or rain water for several days. This will help to destroy the inhibitors and increase the germination of planting material.
  • After wetting, the seeds are spread in a thin layer on thin paper. This will save planting material and make the planting process much easier.
  • After the moisture is absorbed, the seeds are placed in a plastic bag and kept there until hatching.
  • After the seeds germinate, they must be planted in the ground.

Another way to prepare seeds is through stratification. To do this, they are placed in a refrigerator for a month, and after this time they are transferred to a warmer place, where the air temperature is approximately +20 ° С, and sprouts are expected to appear.

Features sowing strawberries "Ali Baba": timing and scheme

It is preferable to sow beardless strawberries from February to April. In the summer, planting strawberries “Ali Baba” is also possible, but only if the weather is cool and expected.

For the proper development and good yield of the plant, it is important to prepare a special soil mixture, which includes sand and crumbly humus. These components are heated in the oven, after which they are laid out on the landing site of strawberries.

Once the soil is compacted, you can start sowing seeds (they should be mixed with a separate portion of sand). At the end of the procedure, the bed is covered with a dense film. About a month later, when the first seedlings begin to hatch, it is necessary to remove the “coverlet” occasionally so that the young shoots get used to the sun's rays.

As for the planting scheme, it is impossible to plant plants close, otherwise they will hurt. The best option is to plant seedlings on beds 100 cm wide in zigzag or in 2 lines. An interval of 22 cm should remain between the bushes. When the rows are arranged at a distance of 50 cm, each plant will receive the required amount of light, which means it will be less sick and give a good harvest. If you plant strawberries in rows, its cultivation will be easier, and harvesting will be easier.

After planting, it is advisable to mulch the bushes with needles, compost or sawdust. For the same purpose, you can use slightly dried grass.

Features of care for strawberries "Ali Baba"

The process of caring for remontant strawberries comes down to periodic loosening of the soil, timely watering and top dressing. With proper care of the plant, the fruits may appear with a high probability in the first year after sowing, however, you should not rush into this matter. The plant will give a lot of energy to the formation of inflorescences, and the bush itself will not fully develop. Harvesting is carried out repeatedly, as the berries ripen.

The variety does not have high requirements for soil, but it needs loose, breathable, moistened and nutritious soil. Subject to the rules of care and watering, strawberries "Ali Baba" are successfully growing in many regions. To prevent the death of the crop and the plant itself from excess moisture, one should avoid planting a berry culture in excessively swampy and rapidly flooded places. It is better to choose light sandy loamy soil, rich in nutrients, moisture and well ventilated.

It is recommended to prepare the soil for planting strawberries in about a month. Dig the bed and make:

  • humus,
  • manure,
  • ash
  • mineral fertilizers.

The better and deeper the soil is cultivated, the better and healthier the root system of the plant will be, and this is a guarantee of a high yield. It should be noted that if the soil is fertile and nutritious, it is necessary to reduce the amount of applied organic fertilizers. An excess of such substances in the soil leads to increased leaf growth and reduced plant yields.

Important! Starting from the first year after harvesting, you need to trim all the foliage from the bushes. This is necessary for continuous cultivation of strawberries in one place.
