Raspberry Balm of medium maturity was obtained by crossing varieties of Newburgh and Rubin Bulgarian. The variety description is presented by the originator - Kokinsky stronghold of GNU VSTISP.
The bush is erect, sprawling, medium-sized. In conditions of central Russia, the height of the plant does not exceed 1.8 m. Annual shoots are quite thick, with a pronounced green color, two-year-old shoots are light brown. The formation of shoots is average, about 15-20 pieces per square meter. On the shoots there is a pronounced wax coating. Prickly average. The thorns are hard, brown in color, shortened type.
Leaves are flat, relatively wrinkled, most often large. The upper side of the leaf plate is dark green, matte, the bottom is light, with strong pubescence, as well as light purple spines, barely noticeable and soft, located along the main leaf veins.
The variety was included in the list of the State Register of the Russian Federation more than 20 years ago and is recommended for cultivation in home gardening in the Central region, but grows well in other regions of Russia. A distinctive feature of raspberry balm is its good winter hardiness. The plant is not susceptible to winter draining, aging, resistant to purple spotting and spider mites.

Ripe medium-sized berry, weighing 2.6-2.8 g, one-dimensional, broadly conical in shape, fairly dense, dark purple when fully matured, very easily separated from the receptacle. Taste is average. The aroma is insignificant, the taste is sweet and sour, pleasant.
Productivity is above average. Productivity - 60-80 kg / ha (7.5-9.1 t / ha). From each productive bush for the entire period of fruiting receive 2.5-2.7 kg of ripe berries. Under the most favorable soil and climatic conditions and agricultural technology, in the middle zone of Russia, the yield is 10.5-12.1 t / ha. The ripening of berries is relatively friendly.
Features of forming and trimming
In the summer, raspberry shoots Balsam can lean under the weight of a ripening berry, therefore when growing, it is recommended to use supports:
- Drive a support stake into the central part of the berry bush and tie shoots to it. The disadvantage of this method is that the illumination of the plant is reduced, and, as a result, the overall yield.
- Fan method: place support stakes between the bushes, tie part of the shoots to one support, and the rest to the other. The bush formation also involves fastening to a wire stretched between two supports.
- The tapestry method: raspberry stems are attached to supports in early spring, until the stage of active budding.
Immediately after the final harvest, cut-off shoots must be cut and burned. From the first summer month, it is very important to regularly cut the shoots with a sharpened shovel. In the autumn, excess stems are also subject to removal. A good result is given by the double raspberry pruning scheme: at the very beginning of the summer period, the apical parts of the shoots are shortened by 10-15 cm; next year, the second pruning is carried out, during which all last year’s lateral growths are shortened by 10-15 cm.
If during planting a sufficient amount of fertilizers and nutrients was introduced into the soil, then in the first two years of cultivation, feeding is not necessary. For pre-planting soil enrichment, a mineral complex is used: 150-200 g of superphosphate and 60-80 g of potassium. Later in the spring, nitrogen-containing fertilizers must be applied. At the stage of crop formation, productive bushes are fed with phosphorus and potash fertilizers: potassium sulfate, wood ash, superphosphate. A good effect is the introduction of organic matter in the form of manure or bird droppings, diluted with water.

Reviews about this variety are very contradictory: it is appreciated for the possibility of obtaining an early harvest, but the taste qualities of ripe berries are characterized as very average. Harvest suitable for universal use. The berries are dense, perfectly separated from the fruit, very transportable.

Another advantage of Raspberry Balm is that it propagates easily and in various ways: lignified and green offspring, root cuttings, dividing the bush. The most popular way is to separate in spring from the mother plant a young offspring with a height of 15-20 cm, which, with an earthen lump, is planted in a permanent place, watered, mulched and shaded.
