The cultivation of gladioli is possible not only on flower beds and flower beds of open ground or in greenhouse conditions, but also in decorative flower pots or flowerpots. The latter option is increasingly used by domestic florists and is an excellent choice in the absence of a personal plot.
Features of growing gladioli in flower pots
To grow a full-fledged flowering ornamental plant in indoor floriculture, it is imperative to follow certain rules of agricultural technology. It is best to plant miniature and small-flowered varieties of gladiolus in the apartment, the stem part of which does not exceed 30-50 cm in height.
Varietal variety allows you to choose the best option, but Gladiolus "colvillei", the color palette of which is represented by many shades, is quite deservedly popular with domestic flower growers. Planting takes place in mid-spring, but when planting in the early autumn, gardeners manage to get massive bloom in the spring.
Indoor gladioli are not too whimsical plants, but the decorative culture must be properly planted. In closed ground conditions, bulbs of a flowering perennial are planted in special containers, the sizes of which must correspond to the varietal characteristics and the degree of growth of the plant. The standard height of the pot should be at least 0.3-0.5 m. The landing tank must necessarily have high-quality drainage holes that will prevent moisture stagnation.

Bulb preparation rules
The corms of indoor gladiolus must be selected correctly. The most promising planting material for abundant flowering are bulbs, the diameter of which varies between 2-4 cm with a bottom size of 0.3-0.7 cm. Bulbs should not be wrinkled. There should be no brown spots or mold marks on the surface. It is recommended to give preference to planting material with one, but well-developed and powerful sprout. It is these bulbs that bloom best and form a large baby.
Corms should be cleaned from dry integumentary scales before carrying out preplant planting, under which pathogenic spores can persist. A thorough examination should discard diseased bulbs, and planting material suitable for planting should be treated with a fungicide solution. The use of the drug "Maxim" or "Fundazole" gives a good result, which can be replaced with a solution of potassium permanganate, Bordeaux mixture or copper chloride. The fight against plant parasites is carried out with Aktara or Karbofos preparations.
To stimulate growth processes, as well as to increase the number of peduncles and the quality of flowering, corms of an ornamental culture must be soaked in a solution of microelements or with the addition of the drug “Citovit”. Experienced flower growers independently make a mixture for soaking gladiolus bulbsmixing potassium permanganate, boric acid, copper sulfate, zinc sulfate, ammonium molybdate and magnesium sulfate in a ratio of 2: 2: 2: 0.5: 1: 2 grams per bucket of clean water. In this state, planting material is processed within 6-12 hours.
A good result is obtained by additional processing of gladiolus bulbs with special root formation stimulants, which can be used as "Epinom", "Zircon", "Kornevin" or Kornerostomas well as humic acids. After processing, the corms need to be laid out in a single layer in boxes that are installed in a dry, well-lit and warm room. Bulbs that did not form a sprout and root tubercles in a couple of weeks are discarded.

Features of planting gladioli in a cache-pot
At the bottom of the flower pot or pots you need to lay a quality drainage, which is recommended to use fine gravel, which should be well washed. The average height of the drainage layer may vary depending on the size of the landing tank. As a rule, the drainage height is 20-30 mm, which will allow not only to remove excess moisture, but also provide an effective supply of air to the root system of the ornamental plant.
The pre-trained gladiolus corms should be planted in well-moistened soil with a depth of 8-12 cm. The soil substrate must be quite loose and light, with high fertility and very good moisture permeability. When planting, you must observe the distance between the bulbs of 6-7 cm, which will allow you to get abundant and magnificent, and most importantly long flowering.
Watering and dressing technology
Indoor gladioli produce quite large and high inflorescences, but the insufficiently powerful root system is not able to provide decorative culture with moisture from the deep soil layers. Irrigation measures must be supportive, therefore, it is impossible to prevent the drying out of an earthen coma, as well as its excessive overmoistening. In order to get a colorful and plentiful flowering, the culture must be provided with regular irrigation with settled water at room temperature. The soil in the flower pot must be moistened to the full depth. Water during irrigation should not fall on foliage and gladiolus flowers.
A limited amount of nutrient substrate in a flower pot requires careful attention to top dressing, therefore Fertilizing is recommended according to the following scheme:
- after the formation of the first true leaf, the decorative culture must be fed with nitrogen-containing fertilizers with the addition of potassium compounds;
- at the stage of formation of the fourth leaf, 10 g of nitrogen fertilizers and 10 g of potassium fertilizers with the addition of a gram of boric acid are introduced into the soil of the flower pot;
- after the appearance of the sixth leaflet, 10 g of nitrogen fertilizers and 15 g of potash fertilizers are applied;
- in the phase of the appearance of peduncles and at the beginning of flowering, a complete mineral fertilizer is used for dressing;
- After flowering, the decorative culture must be fed with potash-phosphorus fertilizers.
A good result is the use of special fertilizers for flowering decorative crops to feed indoor gladioli.
When decorating, a flower pot with gladiolus must be placed in a warm and well-lit room. In winter, gladioli should be provided with additional lighting in the morning and evening.
Quite often, a cache-pot with gladioli is used to decorate home gardens. In this case, a cache-pot with a decorative culture looks great not only in a single execution, but also in the composed flower compositions, when decorating mixboxers and flower beds of any configuration. Small-flowered or medium-flowered varieties of gladioli are usually used to formulate compositions., which are most often installed in flowerpots in whole groups. Low-growing indoor varieties look good when decorating paths or framing lawns.

If the decorative culture is used in landscape design, it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment of the plant with insect-fungicidal compounds, which will reduce the risk of gladiolus damage in open ground by pathogenic microorganisms or plant parasites.
