Raspberries are the most fragrant of all garden berries. Large and very juicy fruits of this culture are considered a good source of many vitamins and minerals, and are also widely used in folk medicine. Early summer raspberry varieties that are able to please with an abundance of sweet berries are especially appreciated by summer residents. One of these varieties is Gusar, a large-fruited early ripe raspberry variety that is suitable for cultivation throughout Russia.
The Hussar variety is a remodeling variety of early ripe raspberries. The height of the bushes of this plant reaches 2.5 m, and the berries are formed large and very dense. The shape of the fruit is elongated-conical, and the color resembles a ruby. The taste is typically raspberry - sweet, with a slight acidity.
The Husar raspberry bush itself is large, medium spread and very tall. Those who planted it on their site, note that the variety fully justifies its name with a heroic article and inflexibility. Despite its large size, it practically does not lie under strong winds and does not bend under the weight of berries (which, by the way, from one bush gain from 3 kg or more!).
The growth power of the bushes is excellent. The bush after full pruning from autumn to mid-June is a one and a half meter lush thicket, entirely covered with dark emerald leaf blades and the first flowers. The stems are practically devoid of thorns, and the shoots from the roots are few (no more than 10 shoots per plant).
The variety is highly resistant to freezing of the soil, its drying out and infection with viral and other infections.

Advantages of the variety and its disadvantages
In raspberries Gusar, the description of the variety can tell a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of this plant. The main thing in the search for advantages is to consider each paragraph of the description from a practical point of view:
- Small amount tofawn offspring facilitates planting care and saves space on the site. This also includes the complete absence of thorns on the stems, which to some extent impede harvesting and planting care.
- High yield achieved due to several waves of fruiting, as well as the early entry into fruiting. Harvest manages to ripen even in areas with adverse climatic conditions.
- Berry density Husar has very high raspberries, so they can be transported over long distances without fear. In addition, they practically do not crumble from the bushes, which allows you to harvest not daily, but with an interval of up to 4 days.
Along with this, the repairing raspberry Gusar differs from other varieties in its excellent resistance to viral, fungal and bacterial diseases that affect raspberries.
Of the disadvantages of the variety, only the taste of berries, according to gardeners and consumers, is not sweet enough. However, they are suitable for drying, making jams, jellies and stewed fruit.
Dates and rules for planting raspberries Gusar
Despite the fact that it is recommended that planting varieties be planted in a permanent place in the fall, the planting of raspberries Gusar should begin in the spring. The fact is that the roots of this variety cannot tolerate icing of the roots, which often happen during spring thaws. Planting time is the beginning or middle of May (in the northern regions - the beginning of June), when the soil warms up and thaws to a depth of at least 30 cm.
Since the raspberry bushes of Husar are very large, and for normal growth they need a large amount of nutrients, the planting scheme should be as follows: between plants in a row - at least 80 cm, between rows - at least 100 cm.
Landing pits must be prepared in the fall. Their size usually does not exceed 50 x 50 cm and a depth of 55 cm. The bottom of the planting pits is filled with plant debris and semi-rotted manure, and a layer of fertile soil of at least 30 cm is poured on top. During the winter, the earth will settle slightly, and in the spring, seedlings are placed in the pits and fill the holes to the top with soil with the addition of humus.
Raspberry Gusar is a classic representative of his family (adjusted for the fact that the variety is repair), therefore, the list of agricultural activities for the normal development of the bush and fruiting includes:
- plentiful and regular watering in the summer;
- top dressing in spring and summer;
- pruning bushes to form more flowers and fruits;
- protection against pests and diseases.
For irrigation, use settled water, which was in the air for at least 12 hours. This will protect the roots of raspberries from temperature extremes. The amount of water poured under one bush is 7-9 liters. Watering must be at the root!
With the onset of warm weather and with the growth of new leaves, they begin feeding. The first should consist entirely of organic matter - infusion of mullein or chicken droppings. After thawing the soil, it is also possible to introduce rotted manure (a bucket under one bush) into its upper layer. With the beginning of flowering, fertilizing is repeated, but potassium and phosphorus fertilizers are added to the infusion of organics (10 g each per 10 l of infusion). In the fall, if necessary, such top dressing is repeated. Additionally, during the summer, the aisles are sprinkled with wood ash (not more than 0.5 liter cans per square meter).
Unlike other repairing varieties that are completely cut before winter, raspberries Gusar does not need such a procedure. In the spring, you need to carefully examine last year's stems, and leave the strongest of them, and cut the dry and weak ones without leaving stumps. A prerequisite - leaving 5-6 new shoots to rejuvenate the bush.
The first trimming is carried out in mid-June. At the same time, all stems that have reached a height of one and a half meters are shortened by 35-50 cm, leaving the stems of a meter high. This contributes to the redistribution of nutrients from the stems to flower buds, which will increase productivity. By the middle of July, a second shortening is carried out. This time, the main stems are not touched, but lateral shoots are shortened by 10-15 cm.
Pests of raspberry hussar and protection measures against them
Repair raspberries are infected with diseases and pests no less often than ordinary raspberries, bearing fruit once a season. To avoid crop loss and maintain planting, it is important to detect them and destroy them in a short time.
Stem Raspberry Fly
The first pest that can settle on the stalks of raspberries Husar is a stem fly. This small insect lays larvae on the tops of young stems, and they bite into the thickness of non-lignified branches, leading to their drying out and death.
There are two ways to prevent spoilage of shoots:
- search and manual collection of larvae;
- processing bushes with Aktellik solution.
The second method can be used for prevention, but only before the flowering of raspberries.
Raspberry gall midge (shoot gall midge)
This pest lives in the upper layers of the soil. Larvae postponed in the spring with the onset of heat begin their movement up the raspberry shoots, gnawing passages under their bark. You can detect the pest by cracked sections of the bark on the lower part of the stems.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to destroy raspberry gall midge by chemical means. The pest can be cleaned only by completely removing the infected bush (with a lump of earth) from the raspberry, followed by burning. You can protect your garden from the appearance of the pest only by choosing a completely healthy planting material.
The pest activates in early summer, and damages leaf blades and buds of raspberry bushes. This pest can be detected by noticeable "holes" on the leaf blades and the absence of ovaries, despite the abundant flowering.
To destroy the pest, regular loosening of the soil in raspberries is carried out and weed vegetation is destroyed near the bushes of cultivated plants. The same measures help prevent the beetle from landing attacks. In addition, before flowering can be treated with Actellic bushes.
